6th & 7th Grade Art
In 6th and 7th grade art students are given the opportunity to explore the elements of art on a 2 dimensional surface through the use of a variety of art materials and tools. Students will study and become familiar with the elements of art - line, value, shape, form, space, color and texture. Students are expected to be able to define, use and identify these elements in various art works. This course also includes specifics on the proper use and care of art tools and materials.
Advanced Art - 8th Grade
In Advanced Art 8th grade students are given the opportunity to further explore the elements of art on a 2 dimensional surface through the use of a variety of art materials and tools. Students are expected to take the elements of art - line, value, shape, form, space, color and texture to the next step and use them in an experimental way through more advanced art projects. Some of the art processes used in this course include but are not limited to drawing, printmaking, painting and an introduction to some 2-dimensional work. This course also includes specifics on composition, critique and self evaluation. In order to gain entry into Advanced Art a student must meet the following requirements:
* talent or show some potential for talent
* self discipline
* have taken art as a 7th grader or submit a portfolio of artwork in the spring prior to the 8th grade year - portfolio must meet teacher's approval
* gain teacher's signature on course elective card
Yearbook
Yearbook gives students the opportunity to explore the process of building and producing a book. The skills learned in this class include organization, photography, writing for publication, desktop publishing, professional people skills and more. These skills will be beneficial to those students who choose to persue a career in journalism such as working for a newspaper/magazine staff or book publishing company. Staff members are chosen based on teacher recommedations and an application process. A staff of six 7th graders and six 8th graders is maintained. A student must have been chosen to be on staff as a 7th grader in order to be on staff as an 8th grader.
