Quantiles
What are they?
The Quantile Framework for Mathematics is similar to the Lexiles Framework for Reading. It uses a common, developmental scale to measure mathematics achievement and problem solvability. Quantiles enable educators to target instruction by identifying the mathematical skills a student has mastered, the skills that require more instruction, and new skills the student is ready to learn. In the state of Texas, a student's quantile score will be based on his/her performace on TAKS ranging from 0Q-1400Q.
When will schools begin using them?
A Quantile measure is being added to each student's Confidential Student Report for the Mathematics TAKS beginning with the Spring 2007 TAKS results.
What do the Quantiles scores mean?
A Quantile score is based on each child's readiness to go on to the next level of instruction within their Mathematics curriculum.
