Spelling Rules
The Floss Rule – In a one syllable base word immediately after a short vowel, final (f) is spelled ff, final (l) is spelled ll, and final (s) is spelled ss. (kit 1)

Sink Rule – Medial (ng) before (k) and (g) is spelled n as in sink. (kit 2)

King Rule – Fianl (ng) is spelled diagraph ng as in king. (kit 2)

Pickle Rule - Medial (k) is spelled ck in a multi-syllable word between a short accented vowel and a final stable syllable as in pickle. (kit 2)

Truck Rule – Final (k) is spelled diagraph ck in a one-syllable base word immediately after a short vowel. (kit 2)

Intial or medial (k) is spelled k before e and i and y. (kit 2)

Intial or medial (k) is spelled c before a, o, u or any consonant. (kit 2)

Bank & Book Rules – Final (k) us spelled k in a one or more syllable base word immediately after a consonant or after 2 adjacent vowels, as in bank or book. (kit 3)

Picnic Rule – Final (k) is spelled c in a 2+ syllable base word immediately after a short vowel sound as in picnic. (kit 3)

Standing Rule – When adding a suffix to a base word ending with 2 consonants, the spelling of the base word does not change as in “standing” (kit 2).
