WELCOME TO ART ONE FOR THE '07-'08 SCHOOL YEAR!
Art 1 is a beginning level studio based exploration course in which students create original two and three dimensional art works in a variety of art disciplines. These include graphic art, drawing, painting, print making, sculpture, digital media and art history. Students will demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the elements and principles of art, its' historical and cultural influences, and make critical judgments about individual art works, while producing their own art works.
SUPPLIES: Students will need the following supplies for the entire school year.
SKETCHBOOK (9X12), PENCILS - EBONY AND #2, ERASERS - WHITE AND KNEADED, SHARPIES - FINE POINT AND EXTRA FINE POINT, HAND HELD PENCIL SHARPENER, EITHER 1 BAR OF "LAVA" SOAP OR 1 BOX OF KLEENEX.

Second semester units will include painting, ceramics, sculpture and printmaking. Students might want to bring a smock or old shirt to class. Supplies needed will be the sketchbook, masking tape, pencils and sharpies.
APRIL STUDIO WORK
FIGURATIVE CLAY WHISTLE
Students will fasten a whistle, using the pinch method of building. They will use figurative forms to complete the project.
SLAB, CUT BOTTOM BOWL
Using the slab building technique, students will create a bowl emphasizing texture.
PAPER MACHE SCULPTURE
Students will design, build and paper mache an assemblage sculpture. We will look at figural works, as well as Oaxacan sculptures.
