Welcome to Algebra
I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you this year. This is an advanced placement class and it may be the first time you will have to study for your Math class.  Math, in the past, has probably been pretty easy for you or you would not be in this class. We will basically be learning all new material and moving at a rapid pace. Because of this, it is very important for you not to allow yourself to get behind. You must be prepared every day. You must take the responsibility to ask questions or come in for tutoring the minute you realize you are having difficulty with a topic. Believe me, this will happen to all of you and it is ok. This will be a new adventure in your Math life. It is your first high school credit. It will require a more mature attitude, more self discipline, and more self-directed learning.  You will reap all the benefits of your hard work. You are going to love the challenge!!!!

Respect in the Classroom
The four pillars of respect are:
Manners
Language
Honoring the Rules
Appreciating Differences

Topics
We will be covering the first three chapters quickly as a Review. It will be material that was covered in pre-algebra. We will then be covering as time allows:
Graphing Linear Equations and Functions
Writing Linear Equations
Solving and Graphing Linear Inequalities
Systems of Equations and Inequalities
Exponents and Exponential Functions
Polynomials and Factoring
Quadratic Equations and Functions
Radicals and Geometry Connections
Rational Equations and Functions
Probability and Data Analysis

Supplies
Students are expected to show up daily with a pencil, red checking pen and paper.

Grading
Daily Work 20%     Quizzes 30%   Tests 50%

Daily Work
All work must be in pencil and work must be shown to receive full credit. All work is expected to be turned in on time as this is an advanced placement class. Work not finished in class becomes homework.

Absences
After an absence it is the student’s responsibility to get any notes from another classmate, get the assignment from the posted agenda and turn in any work missed within the time amount allowed per student hand book. If you need help over any topic where you missed the instructions, you may come in for tutorials.

Communication
My web page is found at http:// mail.ldisd.net/Virginia Fitzpatrick/.This is an excellent place for parents or students to find current information about what is going on in our class. Tutorial times will be posted here. My conference time is from 2:19-3:04. I can be reached through my email address which is vfitzpatrick @ldisd.net or through the school office at 940-497-4037.
